When Tradition Meets Innovation: Courage and Respect in the Peach Blossom Enchantment
Produced and performed by the Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe and directed by versatile Ann LANG, this innovative production, the Peach Blossom Enchantment, blends the essence of traditional Taiwanese opera with modern creativity. The opera explores themes such as the battle between good and evil as well as personal vendettas. Through rich storytelling and diverse techniques, it maintains the cultural value of Taiwanese opera while offering audiences a fresh art experience.
Inspired by the real-life tragedy of "Rose Boy" YEH Yung-chih, this production follows TAO Chun-hua, a bullied boy, and his friend HAN Chong. When HAN Chong joined the Imperial Guard, the two pledged to place a peach blossom branch each year and wait for their reunion. However, after 18 years, misunderstandings lead to a tragic end for Chun-hua. After Chun-hua's death, how did HAN Chong face his five stages of grief? How would you handle such an unbearable loss if you were HAN Chong? Let's follow Call Cue and walk into the peach blossom grove.
